MASJID & ISLAMIC SCHOOL DESTROYED BY HURRICANE KATRINA

Masjid Yaseen was built in 1985. By the grace of Allah (SWT), it was one of the most active Masajids in the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. Masjid Yaseen served a Muslim community of 200 families with 5 times daily prayers, dawa activities, and religious education in St. Bernard Parish. Masjid Yaseen was the only masjid in New Orleans that was open 24 hours and never locked its doors. Jamia Al-Hameed (Islamic School), a building situated next to Masjid Yaseen, was started in 1990. This Islamic School was the first boarding school of its type in the United States. Since its inception 15 years ago, more than 55 students from various parts of the United States and Canada have completely memorized the Holy Quran (Hafiz-ul-Quran).

On August 29, 2005, both of these buildings were completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The 200 Muslim families living in the community surrounding Masjid Yaseen have also lost their homes, cars and all their belongings.

Alhamdulillah, the masjid has now been re-established. We thank all the brothers/sisters who have made this a reatity. Please make dua for us and the community, and continue to contribute for the daily operations of the masjid. The temporary mailing address is as follows:
